Butterfly Valves

The butterfly valve can be used for ON/OFF service or to regulate flow. The closing mechanism has a disk shape. Operates like a ball valve, allowing fast closing with a 90º turn.
This type of valve is generally preferred because its costs less than other valve designs and is very light weight. The disk is located in the centre of the piping, spanned by a stem connected to an actuator on the valve exterior. On turning the actuator, the disk turns in parallel with or perpendicular to the flow.
The butterfly valve belongs to the quarter-turn valve family. When the valve is closed, the disk turns, completely blocking the flow. When the valve is totally open, the disk does a quarter turn, allowing an almost unrestricted flow.
