Plug valves are used for opening/closing and diversion of flows, since they can have multi-port layout. This valve type has a closing or sealing device that consists of a kind of truncated cone-shaped plug which turns around the central stem. The seal is opened by using a lever to turn it on its own stem until its window coincides with those in the valve body.

Its speedy activation (by key or lever) keeps losses of pressure in the open position to a minimum. This means it can be used in fluids with solids in suspension. It is normally used in the oil, chemicals, and energy industries, pharmacy, etc.
